Federal Government Payroll Reaches Largest in
Modern American History
Schauer Pushes for Larger and More Expensive Government
Tipton, MI- The Obama administration recently revealed that the federal government’s payroll will hit 2.15 million this year, the largest federal government workforce in modern American history. As reported in The Washington Times, “Most of the increases are on the civilian side, which will grow by 153,000 workers, to 1.43 million people, in fiscal 2010.” The article noted this number amounts to “the largest federal work force in modern history” and tops “2 million for the first time since President Clinton declared that ‘the era of big government is over.’”
Republican Congressional Candidate Tim Walberg made the following statement regarding the news:
“Mark Schauer and President Obama’s massive expansion of the federal government is crowding out the private sector, the true engine of economic growth. Unfortunately for Michigan families, Mark Schauer continues pushing to make government larger and more expensive. As a State Senator, Mark Schauer voted for Governor Granholm’s tax increases and even tried to make them larger by introducing a bill to raise the income tax by 18%. Now as a Congressman, he has voted for the $862 billion spending stimulus, trillion dollar deficits, and a government takeover of health care. My agenda of less government spending and lower taxes will generate more private sector jobs and more opportunities for families and small businesses.”
