U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg seeks House support for bill that would rename Jackson post office after James Bonneau

From M Live:

JACKSON, MI—U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg is making strides in naming Jackson's U.S. Post Office after officer James Bonneau, who was shot and killed on duty in 2010.

This is the congressman's second attempt at renaming the post office after the former city of Jackson police officer. On Thursday, May 22, a resolution passed the Oversight and Government Reform Committee and the bill now is headed for the House floor.

If passed, the post office would be the "Officer James Bonneau Memorial Post Office Building."

"Renaming this post office will ensure his sacrifice is long remembered in our community, and I am hopeful that this bill will be considered by the full House soon," Walberg, R-Tipton, said in a statement.

Just after midnight on March 9, 2010, Bonneau was shot and killed while responding to a domestic disturbance. He was 26.

Gov. Rick Snyder signed legislation in March officially designating the new bridge on West Avenue the "Officer James Bonneau Memorial Bridge."

A ceremony took place Tuesday, March 12, in Lansing attended by Bonneau's parents, Marc and Amy Bonneau, as well as James Bonneau's former fiancée, Rachael Maloney.
